Madness of Skincare Products, Update

Update: ONE month later (Sept 25).

Time for my 6-month update on the products I am STILL using:

1. Neutrogena Make-up Removel Towelettes (for eyes and face)
2. I (still) use a Clinique foaming cleanser to take off the rest of my make-up (it lasts forever... just a dab is enough for your whole face)
3. Neutrogena Visibly Even Healthy Skin/Anti-wrinkle/blemish cleanser (the Visibly Even one I use in the shower in the AM) to clean my face
4. Neutrogena Clear Pore Pore Refining toner (finished the other one; this one has weaker alcohol content but adds an AHA and has a nice fragrance. I have a couple of Clinique samples, but... price is prohibitive.
5. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel (the lotion is too rich for my skin but the gel is perfect). It lasts FOREVER. A half-pump is enough for the whole face. On days when I know I'll be in the sun, I am now using Clinique's Superdefense/SPF 25 for oily skin. I love this. It has the SPF (UVA/UVB) without the greasy feel and doesn't leave the "white" look on your face. At night, the sample of Clinique Turnaround concentrate. Makes my skin feel soft & smooth!

I will need to go back to Prescriptives for more of my foundation soon.
I love Clinique's Pore Minimizer/T-Zone Shine Control. It works well, even with my super greasy nose.

whatever brand you use, it's good to use the same products on your face rather than mixing them with others. then the products can do their job more effectively. have you ever tried Aveda? it is somewhat expensive, similar to Clinique, but worth it. i don't like their make-up(maybe you will), but i love their skin and hair products.

You know, I've heard that but I've also heard the opposite is true (i.e. you can mix and match)... but I am definitely thinking about your advice! (I will check out the Aveda site too.)

As far as the toners go... Neutrogena Oil-Controlling/Eliminating Astringent is so close in ingredients to Clinique that I find it hard to justify paying twice the price for the brand. Both Neutrogena & the Clinique #3 clarifying lotion/toner (which is what was recommended to me) contain (a) denatured alcohol (b) water, (c) witch hazel (d) salicylic acid (e) butylene glycol etc.

I may switch back to a Clinique gel cleanser (step one) when I finish my current Neutrogena bottle... Last time I used one of their step 1 cleansers was back when they only had the bar soaps, which were so frustrating to use. Now they have all kinds of stuff in bottles.

I don't think I'll ever give up the Prescriptives foundation (anyway they are owned by the same company) ... it was too hard to find a foundation that worked for my skin of yellow hue. LOL.

from what i have been told by numerous skin care specialists, clinique is more appropriate for teenagers with acne problems. the ingredients are too stringent for more mature skin. something to think about. i would definitely check out aveda. my aesthetician in hawaii (i saw her at the hale koa) prescribed a personal skin care regime for me and it worked well. they can do that for you too. Aveda sells their products only at Aveda salons. i'm not sure if you can get them online. there is a salon at the Ala Moana and another one downtown, but that one generally services the downtown business clientele and might be pricier than other places. anyway, if you go with Aveda, once you get your regime you can try to just buy the products online and save some money. b/c anywhere in hawaii is expensive!

Actually in some ways I have skin like a teenager (other than the fewer breakouts)... I get oily (even after washing, astringent, etc.) within 1-2 hours of cleansing!!!

"Madness" is right!  Wow, that's a lot of stuff.  I wash my face with a Noxema cleanser in the morning and I'm done for the day.    Actually, I bought a night cream awhile back but I never seem to care enough to bother with it at night.  I probably should; my mom is quite wrinkled so I'm sure I'm doomed for the same.  I have a friend who sells Arbonne and I've heard their products are amazing, but at those prices, their products should give you the skin of a child!  They are way expensive.

Anyway, just wanted to comment since you finally posted again.

Our skin is really different, but I enjoy reading about your routine. It makes me smile...we would probably have fun scouring dept store beauty counters together. :)
